Problems of women

In the 21st century where we find everything in a settled way, proudly boost of being the part of globalization and modernization we have many things unlooked. As every coin has two sides so has the India’s profile. One the one hand where we can see rich life style of people there are a large number of people in the same India who struggle for their a day’s meal. I keep asking this question again and again to myself but cannot draw any inference. I think I can solve the problem once I get into the system in a proper way. Recently a research programme was conducted by the Upssala University, Sweden, and I got the opportunity to be the part of it kudos to Samarthan. As I am keenly interested in women oriented issues and gender inequality so I observed everything very minutely. While in field I gained a lot of practical knowledge related to women living in the slum areas. I was shocked to hear that domestic violence, food insecurity, problems of sanitation, eve teasing are not a very serious problem for them. In fact while talking to one of the women, I was stunned when she said ‘these are part and parcel of women life. We are nothing in the absence of male guardian’. It was shocking to know that even in the 21st century we have women with such perspectives. The women living in slum areas are mostly exploited by their husband but the women are not ready to leave them or take any action against them. Women have been suppressed and kept under control by men for ages and this process continues. Despite calling women an integral part of family they have no importance. When we talk about the education and awareness of women in rural and slum areas we get to know that they are still uneducated and unaware of the present scenario to a great extent. The girls in these areas are not given formal education instead are told about the know-how of household chores. Poverty plays a crucial role in the development and education of girls. According to the people living in slums and rural areas ‘ we cannot afford education to all of our children especially to the girl child. So we prefer to provide qualification to our boys’. The concept lie behind this is that they still think that the boys are their own property while the girls have to go to someone else’s family. So why to spend money on those who is someone else’s property. Also early marriage has a lot of adverse effects on the health of women. Girls getting married in their teenage get various psychological problems. They get pregnant early which leads to bad impact on their health. 60% of girls in the rural and slum areas get married before they are 18. They are not even aware of medical treatment related to pregnancy. .

  1. A good piece of writing on Women related issues. The writer is emotionally attached with the subject. That is why there is a fluency of thoughts in the article. Content is rich. But I would also like to suggest that the writer should provide solutions also. I think we all know the subject and come across such incidents almost everyday. We need to think about solutions and implementation of ideas.
Good job! Keep writing. Do more research. Also include quotes... All the best ;-)
